I have used the above for two monitors. It works very well for my HDTV in another room.
I wanted 3 monitors. Two where the computer (HPE 104t) is located and an HDMI cable to HDTV (snaked thru a connecting wall.)
To add a third monitor I purchased a USB to VGA multi monitor external Video Adapter from Radio Shack and loaded the enclosed driver: USB2VGAE2 from StarTech.com. The hookup works perfectly with a minimum hassle by using the "personalize" option from Desktop and "change monitor settings" This enables an older style VGA hookup to an older Flat screen HP monitor to my new computer which does not have the VGA / serial port.
I wonder why HP didn't include the VGA port?
I also have a Radeon HD5450. (OEM)

I just bought a 5713w and want to install a second monitor. Will I need a card to go in the single card slot or is there some other way? The PC has just one VGA jack, no DVI or DP jack. Thanks for your help, anyone!

I think you have an s5713w... the s stands for "slimline".
Your computer uses VGA graphics that come from the motherboard. You cannot get digital video from the VGA port. You will need to install a low-profile PCIe x16 video card with DVI and/or HDMI to get those connections.
Your specs: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02642273
Please post rather than send me a message. It's good for the community and I might not be able to get back quickly. - Thank you.

Either HP sales is untrained or just lies. It does not work! The hdmi-vga adapter is for notebooks only. I have been on the phone with tech supoport (English second language) for two hours and we are making little to no progress.
I thought Dell was bad but this is ridiculous.

I am trying to connect a second monitor (an HP w2207 monitor) to an Omni 27-1057c. I purchased a cable to go from the HDMI output of the computer to the second monitor, but I cannot get the windows system to detect the second monitor. Any idea of what I might be doing wrong?

VGA is analog, hdmi is digital - an adapter cable will only work if the graphics chip recognizes that an analog monitor is attached and the chip is able to offer analog signals.
Why don't you use hdmi-2-dvi?
