Pavilion 500-336
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Should I upgrade the firmware/drivers (I am not familiar with the terminology) for the DVD drive?

I see that the driver date is 6/21/2006, driver version 10.0.10586.0

Always keep the BIOS, firmware, drivers and software updates for better performance.

Try installing HP Support Assistant which will automatically download and install drivers/updates:

I have HP support asssistant installed on my computer.  When I run it, it does not find any updates.  I am almost 100% sure that there are newer drivers for some of my hardware-- when I look at the manufacturer's website they show a newer date than the drivers that I have installed (this holds true for several devices but I have not proven it true for this device).

Here is the information for the version of HP support assistant that I have:

8.3.34.7

The one that you linked me to download a file name of "sp77062.exe."  Not sure what version it is, though.  I thought the file name might be more revealing.

@Silverthunder,

Here is what you wanted to know.

This system is feedback driven thru Solution and Kudo flags. It's the only means of knowing if you have been served. Please click Accept as Solution, if your problem is solved. To say THANK YOU, press the "thumbs up symbol" to render a KUDO. You can render both Solution and KUDO..

Ok, so I have the latest version of HP support assistant.

I don't get the "warm and fuzzy" feeling that this HP support assistant is updating the drivers appropriately.

For example,

-My computer came with Intel HD Graphics 4400

-When I open device manager and go to properties, it shows driver date: 8/11/2015 & driver version 10.18.15.4271

-On Intel's website, I see there is a version 15 & several releases since 8/11/15 https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/81497
