My computer will not recognize my Cannon Power Shot SX20 IS Digital camera. I have tried looking for software or drivers for this and had no success. Can someone help? I could remove the card from the camera and have my PC read it but I like hooking up the camera and downloading my pictures or videos. Thanks in advance for any help.

I verified the simple steps required, as I have 2 Canon's. (SX20 IS and SX60 HS).
Connect the cable to camera, and computer. Then power up the camera. The following box appears, at the bottom right.
When you click on this box, it opened the application panel at the right top of the screen
In order from top:
Photo, Picasa (I installed this), Phone Companion, Zip use WinZip to Zip to file, and Open Device to View

With the cable attached, and the camera powered "ON ", check AutoPlay in the Control Panel. My Canon SX60 is listed.
I have a brand new build, and the Canon SX60 was detected immediately when I did as instructed to you. As you having a detection issue with a USB port, try a different port. If you used a front port, use a rear port. Check in Device Manager for an trouble flags.
