My computer takes in excess of two minutes to start up.  It has been slow since purchase but now is getting worse. I have current Norton 360 Virus program. Only recent changes are Windows updates. I have a wired connection to the internet.  Other than the startup or restart times, the computer is fine.

Hello;

Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!

Unfortunately, saying it takes two minutes to "start up" doesn't really provide us any useful details for investigating the problem.

According the the HP product info for your PC, it came in different models, some with Win7 preinstalled, others with Win8 preinstalled -- but NONE with Win10 preinstalled.  So, according to that, you must have done the Win10 Upgrade.

You said it was running slow since purchase, and if it was slow running Win7, it's not likely to run any faster using Win10

Folks that Upgraded their older PCs to Win10 a while back have noticed that with each major new version, their PC performance gets slower and slower.  Is that the case with yours?

Win10 forces a new hibernation option known as Fast Startup, and while this is designed to vastly reduce the startup time, in some older PCs, it actually makes it worse.

So, the first thing I would do is disable Fast Startup...

There are two ways to disable FastStartup in Win8/10; (1) through the Control Panel, and (2) through an elevated command prompt.

Control Panel - Open Control Panel --> Power Options.
Select "Choose what the power buttons do"
Select "Change settings that are currently unavailable"
At the bottom of the Window, under Shutdown settings, uncheck the box regarding fast startup

Elevated command prompt - run the following command:
REG ADD "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Power" /V HiberbootEnabled /T REG_dWORD /D 0 /F

In both cases, reboot Windows.

NOW, FastStartup is disabled.

If this does not accomplish anything, then my guess is that Norton is adding major time to your boot/reboot times -- and if you restart your PC in safe mode, and disable Norton, you should be able to see if that is the case.

Here are instructions for starting Win10 in Safe Mode:  http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2304-safe-mode-start-windows-10-a.html

Good Luck

Thanks WAWood for the quick reply.  I cleared the quick startup option and it took much longer to start up.  So, I set it back to the original checked on setting and shut down and turned the computer on.  It started with in a minute.  I plan to see what happens before I before I close this thread, but right now I have a huge inprovement.
