Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite

I have a new TalkTalk Faster Fibre router which resolutely refuses to link up with my wireless printers - HP deskjet F4580. The lights flash on both printer and router, but they won't consummate. and they're in the same room. I have tried the WPS encryption to but still no joy. no capacity on printer to link up with a pin or password, it's doing my head in - and half an hour on the phone with a TalkTalk teccie who asked four times why i was calling and then repeated it six times (How hard is 'router won't link to printer wirelessly'? ) before putting me on hold apparently to pass me to some expert who never materialised.

the wireless light on the router flashes continuously whether you push the WPS button or not. could this have something to do with it? i rather hoped it was searching for devices to mate with - but clearly not the printers. aaargh!

Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

p.s - I've tried uninstalling the printer software and reinstalling however printer still cannot connect to internet?

Hi @Rod_B,

Thanks for reaching out to the HP community. A very good day to you. 🙂 I understand that you require assistance regarding setting up the printer on the wireless network. It will be a delight to assist you here.

Stupendous description, spectacular troubleshooting and splendid diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you on that score.. 🙂 You are a valued HP customer and I take it as a privilege to share this platform with you. 🙂

For better clarity and to assist you better, I would require more information regarding this.

  • Do other devices connect correctly to this router?
  • Did you try bypass power strips and connect the printer directly to a wall outlet?

For a start please follow all the steps from this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Deskjet-F4580-All-in-One-Printer/3944755/model/3944756/docum... and follow all the prescribed steps mentioned in “OS X v10.8 Mountain Lion and OS X v10.9 Mavericks” this should do the trick for you.

Here we are converting a USB setup to a wireless one which a feature of this HP printer.

If this does not work, then the router may need to be changed.

Please keep me posted. I will keep a watch for your reply.
