For whatever the reason the original power supply was replaced, most common error is to not reconnect everything or there has been a hardware failure.

The machine itself I think started out as a Vista-fitted piece of hardware. I knew something was awry when last time it worked it took several pushbutton trials to get it going. After the power failure it never came back. There had also been a shrill noise as fan blades hitting ther enclosure, but it subsided moments after the initial hard drive spin ceased. i will double check connectors since so many colored wires were hard to track, just in case. I have been switching to Alienware laptop, but with limited capabilities.
