I am trying to connect my PS3 to a HP w1707 monitor with a DVI-D-to-HDMI cable. A message pops up on the monitor saying: "Input signal out of range change setting to 1440x900 - 60Hz." How do I manage to change the setting if the screen pops up black with the message above, and I can't edit anything while my PS3 is on, because the screen is not showing. Is it the PS3's fault or is it the monitor causing the problem?

I am trying to connect my PS3 to a HP w1707 monitor with a DVI-D-to-HDMI cable.
A message pops up on the monitor saying: "Input signal out of range change setting to 1440x900 - 60Hz."
Is this the right cable to use? Do I need to purchase a convert box because of this issue?
I'm not sure what I can do here.
Is it the PS3 that is causing this, or is it the monitor?
Also I can't change the setting since the screen pops up black with the message when I turn on my PS3, the error goes away and the monitor goes to sleep.
Is there any way to manage this without buying anything else?
I really need help with this problem here.
Thank you,
Olademola.

Hi,
The following link shows the specs of your monitor:
http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01390585
The monitor only has 1440 x 900 and the PS3 pumps out full HD format (1920 x 1080) therefore the monitor has to reduce the resolution. You may have to reduce the resolution from the PS3. The following link shows how:
