Thanks Erico,
I do have one last question, if you don't mind.
Now I know that my bios has very likely not been corrupted, is there a software utility that can backup the bios so that it can be restored even in an event where Windows might not want to boot?
(I have searched myself but only came up with one utility, but was afraid to use it to 'scan' my bios and save it.)

Normally when a BIOS is updated, the update softpaq creates an HP folder on the C: system hard disk and stores the previous BIOS there on its own.
