I thank you for replying and your suggestion. That was the point in some of my questions - could it be something else other than a problem with the memory. I do have the DVD's to reinstall Windows 7 in either 32 or 64 bit configuration.
I did try many different configurations and at the present time the two 4gb RAM sticks are installed in another computer increasing that computer to 12gb of RAM. I was told that was "illogical" what ever that means but it is working. The P6510y computer has been delivered to the granddaughtewr with 4gb of RAM installed and using 3.24gb.
So as far as I am concerned this question is dead.
