Pavilion 15-n278sa

Hi,

I have a couple of problems with my laptop:

Recently my laptop fan has been making a really loud noise when the system is first starting up- it comes specifically from the left hand side. It does not happen every time I turn the laptop on, but over 50% of the time.

Also, my laptop is now not charging. The device shows 'plugged in, not charging' so it recognises the power- but it is down to 2% available so any time the charger disconnects the laptop instantly switches off. I have tried plugging the charger into different sockets but this makes no difference.

I have a Hp Pavilion 15-n278sa and have had it for almost 3 years.

Any help and/or advice would be appreciated.

Hi,

First try running a HP hardware diagnostics to see if there are any hardware problems. Here is link to support page:

Also run the HP battery testing and calibration:

I see that there is a BIOS update from Aug 3 2016. Have you already updated the BIOS?

Sometimes the fan starts making more noise when there is a buildup of dust on inside of computer. You can try spraying some compressed air into vents when computer is off and cold, see if helps. If not, you can quite easily replace th fan .

Let me know,

David
