I have been trying to find how I can upgrade the power supply from 280w to a 400w. I don't care if it's through HP or another company at this point. I keep reading that this machine uses a proprietary unit so how do I purchase one that works??

@cristinag, welcome to the forum.

 

Here is the Maintence and Service Guide for the computer.  On Page 16 of the guide it shows a 400W power supply unit (PSU).  I suggest that you try HP Partsurfer for a compatible PSU.
