Power-on Password

When a 'Setup Password' has been set, within the BIOS, three incorrect Setup Password attempts enables access to the BIOS in 'Read Only' mode if 'Setup Browse Mode' is set to 'Enable' in 'Password Options'.

When in the BIOS in 'Read Only' mode, the 'Power-on Password' can be set. Please advise if this is by design or is a bug.

If you can "set" it, is "Save And Exit from BIOS Setup" allowed, or disallowed?

If it is allowed, is the change REALLY applied, or do you just get the "appearance" that it has been applied?

When a BIOS password has been configured, a user, after three incorrect attempts to enter the BIOS password, can gain access to the BIOS in Read Only mode.

One option, which is not Read Only is the Power-on Password which the user is then able to set and then Save and Exit.

The Power-on password is then configured and needs to be entered before the unit boots.

If the user leaves the company, the unit is rendered useless unless the side is removed and the BIOS settings cleared as per HP user manual instructions.

It doesn't seem logical that a user can set this option when supposedly locked out of the BIOS.

When the BIOS password is set, a further option is available in Password Options which is 'Setup Browse Mode' configured as Enabled by default.

Setting 'Setup Browse Mode' to Disabled prevents Read Only access to the BIOS thus preventing the user from setting the Power-on Password.

This is also true of the T620.

Maybe this is by design, but this does not seem logical to me.
