HP T610 thin client
Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit)

Hello,

I've been playing w/the size of the RAM disk to see if helps w/the speed of the TC's @ logon and bootup, and it doesn't change the amount shown on the System page for the "Installed Memory (RAM)", which on our T610's w/4GB of RAM shows 2.49GB usable. (I know a 32-bit OS cannot access all 4GB of installed RAM.)

I've set it to 16MB and 512MB and neither makes a difference in the usable amount listed.

So, if we max out the RAM disk does it somehow access RAM OUTSIDE what the OS can see or does the usable # not reflect the actual amount in use by the OS and the RAM disk?

FWIW, our T610's have the Apacer 16GB MLC SATA Module, running Win7 embedded standard, 32-bit, using a 16GB HP image.

Thanks,

TD

My understanding is that the usable RAM shown by the OS includes the RAM drive as well.  In other words, increasing or decreasing the RAM drive size will not change the usable RAM number.   To Windows, the RAM used for the RAM drive is usable, it is just being used as a RAM drive.  Things that affect the usable RAM shown in Windows include factors like the RAM used for UMA graphics and OS limitations as you mentioned.

Thanks for the reply.

Something related: Under Task Manager>Processes  - There is an Image Name called "System" Its Description is "NT Kernel & System". Its Memory usage matches the size of the RAMDisk.

This System process doesn't show up on my regular PC.

And it does seem to slow down the TC if set @ 512MB. Put it back to 256MB.
