Hi,

I would like to update my bios to the newest version but don't know how to

spec.

HP rp5700 desktop

Intel core 2 duo e6400

Hewlett packard q965 chipset 0A80h model

south bridge 82801HB/HR (ICH8/R) Rev. C1

bios version is 786E4 v01.02

HD 6570 1gb graphics card

4gb of ram

600w PSU

Window7 ultimate 64bit

I downloaded microcode update ver.1.06 from this site and did it as instruction said, made it to boot as dos mode, but I don't know what to type in dos screen mode. Instruction said type "Fdisk" I typed it and said bad file error or something like that. Please help me what to type and what to do after.

Also, I wanted to download the newest version of bios update (I believe it's 1.22 version) and wonder if it is okay to download and update it because I am using windows7 ultimate but the download page description didn't mention about ultimate edition but only professional.

Hello,

The Bios version posted on the HP website for Win7 professional will allow for install even on Win7 ultimate edition.

However, it appears that you already have the latest Bios for this unit - 786E4 v01.02

Hence, your unit is good on the bios front already.

Let me know if this helps !

You may need to contact HP Service center to get help if you have any issue.

Since Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit does not show up on our downloads page for this system, it is officially not a supported OS for this model. However, it is so similar to Win 7 pro that you can use the downloads on that page to update most things (including the BIOS) and they should work fine for you.

The BIOS 1.02 is NOT the most recent version, according to our downloads page it is 1.22 and should install just fine from inside windows. I would not try doing it pre-boot in DOS or anything like that as it is a more complicated procedure.

Basically, when you are updating the BIOS on any of our recent models (including the RP5700) you start by downloading the latest version from your model downloads page.

Next you want to run the file in windows, it should unpack the contents to the folder C:\swsetup\spxxxxx where xxxxx is the number of the file you just got.

Then you may need to go to that folder and manually run the Hpqflash utility to initiate the BIOS flash.

Make sure not to turn the system off or interrupt a reboot during a BIOS flash, it could take some time and you need to let it complete to get the new BIOS safely on the system.
