Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller speed

I have a Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller and just upgrated to 150meg blast from Comcast. The tech that was here got over 175 meg speed coming off my modem. My machine is hard wired to the modem but I only get speeds of 75meg or so. I updated the controller driver but still the same results.  The machine is less than one year old  but both this card and the WiFI limited speed drasticly. 

Is this controller capped at 100mps? or im I missing something?

When you look at what speed the ethernet adapter is connected at, what does it show?

It should show 1 GB.

I had to hook up a cat 6 etherenet cable from my cable modem to my router, and my router to my PC in order to get a 1 GB connection speed from the Broadcom gigabit ethernet adapter in my Dell 580s desktop.

Prior to connecting the two cat 6 cables, the ethernet connection showed it at 100 MBPS, and I got bandwidth test speeds of no more than 75 MBPS.

After the cat 5e ethernet cables were exchanged for the cat 6, the ethernet connection changed from 100 MBPS to 1 GB, and the bandwidth speed test went from 75 MBPs to 134 MBPS, and that is with 100 MBPS service.

Not only did the cat 6 cables improve the wired connection speed, they improved the wireless connection speeds.

I was thrilled.

I'm not that thrilled. Went out and purchased a cat 6 cable. Hooked it up to 2 machines. Still running at 100mpbs Thanks for the suggestion though.

This issue is really getting to me. Cable dude with a cat 5 cable got 175 Mbps . My iPad gets 135mbps  but not one of my computers gets over 75mbps with the cable or over 50mbps when connecting thru the wifi. What I'm I missing????

Unfortunately, I have no idea why your ethernet adapter is only connecting at 100 MBPS--even with a cat 6 cable.

Should be reporting 1 GB, and then that opens the pipeline for more throughput.

I have a HP 350 G1 business notebook and that also has a Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller.

So, I just hooked up a cat 6 cable to my router and the notebook, disabled the wireless connection and opened the local area connection info in the network and sharing center.

The realtek ethernet adapter in this notebook reports a connection of 1 GB and I ran a bandwidth speed test and it reported 130.94 MBPS (paying for 100 MBPS).

So...I don't know what to tell you.

I checked the advanced settings for the Realtek gigabit ethernet adapter in the device manager and I never had changed them.  There are a ton of settings in there, and I noticed there is an Auto disable gigabit setting (mine is on disabled).  There is a Speed and Duplex setting, and mine is set to Auto Negotiation.

There is a setting under the Speed and Duplex to set it for 1 GBPS Full Duplex.

I checked the settings but there was no gig speed one.  Maybe I have a old  card. Driver is up to date as of Jan  2015. I give up.

Yes, it might be an older model card.  My notebook was built in late 2014.

Like you though, I still don't get why it won't connect at 1 GB. 

Why is it called a gigabit ethernet adapter if it can't connect at 1 GB???

The Realtek cards that only connect at 10/100 are called Fast Ethernet adapters.
