What PSU should I consider for replacing my original Bestec ATX-250-12Z Rev D7R (HP p/n 5188-2622)? SHould I upgrade to 300W? I want somethign that is quiet and efficient (80 Gold better rating).
My current PSU has had the flashing green LED and I've had to use the hair dryer fix a couple of times. I want to replace the PSU before the hair dryer trick no longer works.
Any replacement must be the same size so as to fit in the HP case without any modifications.
Thanks for any guidance.

Hi! @TahoePC, Thanks for stopping by HP forums!
I understand you need a replacement power supply for your laptop.
Don't worry I'd love to help you out.
Did you make any hardware changes on your PC?
I have checked the records and according to the records, I was unable to find an upgraded power supply for your PC.
The only option that I see as a replacement part is 5188-2622.
However, you can contact HP parts store and check for upgradeable parts.
Please contact HP parts store using this link.
Hope you have a great day ahead!
Take care! 🙂

I ordered a Corsair CX450 to replace the original Bestec ATX-250-12Z rev D7R. The dimensions of the CX450 appear to be the same as the Bestec, with the only major differences being the additional power (450W versus 250W), and the fan location. The Corsair will need to be installed with the fan downward directed into the PC case. Hopefully this won't be an issue.

Hi @TahoePC,
I reviewed the response completely. As @A4Apollo is out of office, I am taking over from here. The part# has been given in the previous post that is compatible with the computer. Did you order it from HP?
Did you check with a local Best Buy or Staples technician if the ordered part is compatible?
I would suggest that you contact a local technician to replace the part as there should be no compatibility issues and it is a smooth sail without hassles.
Hope this helps. Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great.
To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.
Take care now and have a superb week ahead. 🙂
