Pavilion p7-1423w

Bought a storage unit and found an HP p7-1423w - it has an intel COre i5 processor.

Needless to say I do not have the passwords.  I found an app to change the personal passwords but need the PC to boot from the USB.  I cannot access the BIOS to change the boot source, Bios access has a password.  Once I get into the BIOS, I want to change the boot source to USB.

How do I reset the BIOS password?

Since it is a desktop, not a laptop/notebook, there should be a "jumper" on the motherboard that you can leverage.

1. Turn the computer off.

2. Disconnect the AC power.

3. Press the ON/OFF switch, to drain any possible residual electrical power.

4. Electrically ground yourself, by touching the case.

5. Remove the side-panel, to expose the motherboard: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03135925

6. Expand the section titled "Clearing the PASSWORD settings", and follow the instructions.

Note that the disk-drive may contain a hidden partition.

Boot from that partition, to reinstall the original operating system, as installed at the HP factory -- no need to use your USB stick.
