HP Compaq Elite 8300
Linux

Hi,

I've got a Compaq 8300 (AUD3470R9T). It used to have Windows 7 and has a sticker 'Win 8 Pro downgraded to Win 7 Pro', but it has since been formatted and loaded with Linux (Fedora). Can I restore it back to Windows without buying a new license key?

Hi:

You can order either a W7 or a W8 recovery kit from HP.

In the USA/Canada, call 1-800-334-5144.

Have the serial number of the PC handy to give to the customer services rep.

In other countries, you can contact HP at the link below...

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the quick reply. Can I not download a recovery kit? It's ridiculous that I should order software in the mail in 2017..

Also the HP website says that there is no recovery disk available:

Unfortunately there is no HP Recovery Kit available for an HP product with the product number QV993AV

You're very welcome.

I do not work for or represent HP, so I cannot offer any help regarding their business practices.

HP does not offer recovery media for download for the 8300 Elite business desktop PC's.

My understanding is that for their very newest business PC models, they now offer recovery media via download.

You can only order recovery media by telephone for your HP business PC.

I have called the USA/Canada number many times, and ordered recovery disks for my HP business desktops and notebooks.

You will not find any ordering info online.

If you want recovery media for your PC without paying the full price for a new OS, then I suggest you heed my advice and call HP.
