How do I resolve this SMART hard disk error or is it resolvable

Hello

Smart HDD error is time to copy data to external backup and replace HDD.

Do you have HP recovery media?

Grzy

I'm not sure I just recently got the laptop also you basically said I have to replace my HDD correct

Do you mean it is "new", and still under warranty?  If so, HP will fix/replace it, at no cost to you.

> you said I have to replace my HDD.

Correct.  The SMART diagnostics measure about 20 different items, and just one "fail" (such as it getting much too hot) will flag the disk-drive as "failing".

It might still work correctly for a while.

Is there a utility program on the 'C:' drive to create a "System Recovery" set (either one 16GB USB memory-stick, or a few DVD-recordable disks) ?  If so, create that "set", replace the disk-drive, and use the set to reinstall Windows.

How would I go about in sending my laptop to HP or how can I at least be able to start up my computer to be able do a system recovery

Was the laptop made by HP?

Is the laptop "new", and still under warranty?

You can determine this for yourself, via:  http://support.hp.com

and clicking "check warranty", and entering the unique serial-number of your computer.

To complete a system recovery, it requires a "good" disk-drive, not one flagged by SMART as being "bad".

Compare to having an automobile with a flat-tire: if you do not have a spare tire, you cannot drive to the automotive garage to get the tire fixed.

Instead, you need to investigate some other method of repair:

* if the disk-drive is still "somewhat" working, buy a new disk-drive, and use "disk-cloning" software to make a copy onto that new "good" disk-drive.  Then, boot from that disk-drive.  The new disk-drive will contain all your personal files.

* if the disk-drive is still "somewhat" working, look for a utility program on the 'C:' disk-drive that can be used to create a "System Recovery" set, which is either one 16GB USB memory-stick, or a few DVD-recordable disks.

Then, buy a new disk-drive, put it into your computer, and use that "set" to load the "new" disk-drive back to the status that the original disk-drive was when it left the factory.  The new disk-drive will NOT contain any of your personal files.

So, has your disk-drive TOTALLY failed ?

I'm not sure cause every time I try to reboot it sends the same message for me to run diagnostics test after a black error message that says SMART hard disk failure so I'm assuming it has

The message states "imminent" failure.  SMART monitors over 20 points.

If any of those points reports "bad", then SMART reports "imminent failure".

> so I'm assuming it has

Correct.  The disk-drive probably still can be used, i.e., to make a backup of all your personal files,

but like a leaking tire on your automobile, it eventually needs "attention".

Is there a program on your disk-drive to create a "System Recovery Set" -- either one 16GB USB memory-stick, or writing to a few DVD-recordable disks?  Run it, to create the set.  Use the set, and a brand-new disk-drive, to reinstall Windows.

Then, restore your files from whatever "backup" you have created.
