Solved

After installing all updates, including drivers. System persisted in not reconizing the WD my passport.

After extensive research on the Web, it was found to be a power supply problem. When the SS ports were tested, the the voltage was dropping below the required amount to run the My passport.

A mobile AC powered USB 2.0 hub was connected to the unit, and My Passport was reconized on the first try.

System is now operational.

Thanks for all the help in solving this issue.

Nooee, welcome to the forum.

Did you try plugging the drive into other available USB ports?  Sometimes one port will work better than another.

I do not have enough room on my other back up drive to transfer the data from the passport.

Hi there.

Did you try to reinstall the USB controllers? If not you can follow these steps:

1. Click Start, Type devmgmt.msc, and then click OK. Device Manager opens.

2. Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.

3. Right-click the first USB controller under Universal Serial Bus controllers, and then click Uninstall to remove it.

4. Repeat step 3 for each USB controller that is listed under Universal Serial Bus controllers.

5. Restart the computer. After the computer starts, Windows will automatically scan for hardware changes and reinstall all the USB controllers that you uninstalled.

6. Check the USB device to see whether it is working.

Let me know how it went. 🙂

Thanks, yes I have followed your instructions, it was able to reconize the my passport for about 10 seconds before it again stated that I had the code 10 error. At least it was a step in the right direction.

I have tested the my passport in 2 other computers, an xp machine and another Win7 Pro maching. My Passport was reconized on both of the machines.

Currently installing updates to see if this will solve the problem.

Thanks

All available updates installed, and the problem still persists.

Used third party option to update drivers with no luck.

Very dis-appointed without solving this problem this will prevent me from using this computer for its intended purpose.
