Envy 850-150QE
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I'm looking on the support page: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-envy-phoenix-850-100-desktop-pc-series/8667923/mo... and there are 2 bioses listed.

First is: HP Consumer Desktop PC BIOS Update (ROM Family SSID 2B3A) A0.02 Rev.A

This is what my computer is currently running.

Next is: HP Consumer Desktop PC BIOS Update (ROM Family SSID 2B4B) A0.38 Rev.A  with a compelling note that says "HP strongly recommends promptly transitioning to this updated BIOS version which supersedes all previous releases."

While running Windows 10, I downloaded the A0.38 update, and tried to execute it and it says the softpaq is a mismatch for the ssid. I made a USB drive, and booted into the uefi items to update using the usb drive. Once there, it said I would be updating to release 00.00 which didn't look right, and I stopped.

Is the A0.38 update simply not for my machine? Do the different ROM Families represent different hardware revs?

Hello

Very good question.

I have looked at the motherboard specs for for PC. Your motherboard SSID is 2B36.

The BIOS update A0.38 listed is for for SSID 2B4B. A0.02 BIOS is for SSID 2B3A.

I think last identifier is a variable. Your board has xx3x SSID. A0.38 BIOS update is xx4x.

Without knowning how HP does this I can only guess.

There must be a similar system with different SSID and motherboard or different chipset and BIOS ROM.

This is particularly frustrating (HP) because I believe that the lack of updated UEFI is causing problems with this system that do not happen on similar systems.

Hello

Thank you for more info.

Since it seem HP is not providing BIOS update for your motherboard SSID, what is problem?

Maybe it is fixable without a BIOS update.

I believe this is the cause of two problems.

1) Computer wont boot headless:  http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Boot-and-Lockup/Envy-850-150qe-wont-boot-headless/m-p/6003302/P...

2) Xenserver fails to install or boot: http://discussions.citrix.com/topic/385127-71-fails-to-install-and-also-fails-to-boot-on-hp-i7-4790k...

HP: Any hope for a bios update here?
