Which ram chip do I need for a Slimline 450-a24 specifically

HP Recommended
Slimline 450-a24
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

I have been trying to find out which ram chip to get to upgrade my current setup.  I know it is supposed to be easy but I have seen so many options and they are all different sizes etc.  Any help would be appreciated.

You have 4gb of dual channel memory so I assume you have two sticks. When upgrading dual channel memory it should be done in pairs. Your machine uses DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800).

I have always trusted Crucial for memory on finicky HP machines-guaranteed compatible:

Click "View more compatible memory upgrades" to see kits.

Hi Cheryl, thanks for your quick response.  So i got a part number off the ram chip that is already installed, and there is one other slot to add another chip.  Should I pull the chip already installed and replace it with the crucial pairs you gave me a link to.

The chip that is currently installed is a micron 4gb 1rx8 pc3l-12800S Ram memory MT8KTF51264HZ-1G6N1.  Would it make sense to add an exact pair to this chip already installed if I could find it?  Currently there are a few on ebay for about $20 would it be better to match whats already in my computer or start over with two new chips.  Thanks.

Also the information that I got from the hp website on my computer, the slimline 450-a24 said it took a 240 pin ddr3 pc3 10600, but I have found conflicting information.  Most have said that this computer uses laptop style 204 pin ram chips...I am still kinda confused.

I think you are right about it using 204 pin laptop memory. Desktop memory is about 5 1/4 inches long- measure it to see if it is shorter.

You can add a 4gb stick to what you have rather than ordering the 2X4=  8gb set from crucial. i had assumed it probably had 2 x 2gb sticks since it uses dual channel memory which is faster in pairs- but not unusual to see a manufacturer only use 1.

This is what you have-it is 204 pin:

The 4 gb stick from Crucial is less $
