I just imaged 2 Elitedesk 800 G1 USDT PC's. In the device manager under Display Adapters I have Video Controller (VGA Compatible) I have tried unisntalling and then installing drivers from HP's site I downloaded the latest SP78291.exe I also extracted the drivers and tried just updating the Video Controller (VGA Compatible) pointing it at the c:\swsetup\sp78291 folder and it goes through saying it has updated but then device manager still shows the Video Controller (VGA Compatible). No matter what I do I cannot seem to get the driver to update. When I first imaged the machine and run the installer it does seem to think there is a newer version already on the machine. I am wondering if there is a way to make sure any other versions of the driver are unistalled before trying to update the driver?
Thanks,
Michael Foreman

Hi Michael,
Just a couple of questions. you only have the integrated graphics? not AMD discrete graphic? What CPU do you have in the system, are the two systems identical?
Basically there are 3 different options based on CPU
Intel HD graphics
Intel HD graphics 4600
Intel HD graphics 4400
Have you tried the drivers directly from Intel?
Let me know,
David

Same results from the intel direct driver. I ran the install and it detected HD 4600 driver said it was successful, but device manager still shows Video Controller (VGA Compatible). I rebooted and then tried to update the driver on the Video Controller (VGA Compatible) and selected the location I saved the unzipped files and it appeared to run through fine saw the HD 4600, but same end result. Device manager still shows Video Controller (VGA Compatible).

Hi Mike,
Have you tried reinstalling the 2 chipset drivers on HP site, to see if it makes a change?
I am also reading this document by Microsoft how to force Video Controller (VGA Compatible) and where the driver files are installed and how to put the driver files directly into the folder. (Reverse of what they are showing how to do)

I did try to install the chipset drivers and that didn't help. When i went through to follow the setps at your link I found 900 oem files in the inf folder. I decided we have been building off the same image for too long so I am going to create a new image.
Thanks for all the responses!
Mike
