Did you connect back all fans? Try this and see if you get through:
1. Disconnect the power cord
2. Wait for 5 minutes
3. Remove all memory modules
4. Remove the graphics card
5. Keep the power button depressed for 1-2 minutes
6. Install just 2 memory modules (Check the side panel cover for instructions on memory installation order)
7. Install the graphics card (Remember to connect any auxiliary power connector)
8. Clear the CMOS by pressing the CMOS button on the motherboard
9. Power the system and see if you have a display.
10. If you don't have a display, move the graohics card to another slot after switching off the system.
Let us know how it goes.
Thanks and regards,
Sasi

Problem turned out to be that the NVidia Quadro FX580 video card apparently can't display the boot screen on the Display Port connectors; I ditched my DVI monitor as part of my desk and computer cleanup. With two DP monitors connected, no video at all, though the monitors woke up out of sleep for the initial part of the boot. With a DVI monitor connected, all is well. So I'm switching the main video to an NVS 310 (2x DP) which works well (shows the boot screen)....
The beep codes were for the loss of BIOS settings, caused by one of my many attempts to bring the machine up.
Live and learn; unfortunate that HP's documentation is rather lacking. (For all the verbosity in words and pictures, it leaves way too many important issues unaddressed.)
