I have a HP2159m that was originally working with Windows 7 but was then upgraded to Windows 10 and shortly after the speakers stopped woring.  I have checked them and I do get a sound when I do the test however if I tried to play videos  I do not get a sound at all.

Hi:

What is the full model number or product number of your PC?

The product number can normally be found on the same sticker as the serial number.

How is your monitor connected to the PC?

Is it connected with a HDMI cable, or with a DVI or VGA cable with a separate audio cable from the monitor to the PC?

I don't think it is the monitor that has a problem, but the audio driver may have to be updated to W10 for the PC.

Also, you can use the W7 monitor drivers, if in the Device Manager, under the Monitors category, the monitor is showing up as a Generic PnP Monitor.  That will have no bearing on the sound working though.

If you see a Generic PnP Monitor listed in the Device Manager under the Monitors category, and not a HP 2159m monitor, here is how to update the driver for that.

I have zipped up and attached the monitor driver below.   Download and unzip the file to its folder.

Do not do anything with the files in the folder.

Go to the device manager, and click to expand the Monitors device manager category.

Click on the Generic PnP Monitor you see listed.

Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update Driver.

Select the Browse my computer for driver software option, and browse to the driver folder you unzipped.

Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked, and the driver should install.

Then restart the PC.
