I am trying to use system restore to restore it to factory specs. I keep getting an error code 100c and it will not finish the restore and just restarts the computer. What do i do to get it to restore, i tried the recovery discs but it didn't work and i need to just restore it and start over any help would be awesome.

Thank all for your help. I tried the F11 to do the restore and it wouldn't work either, i finally got a new version of windows and just installed it over my current windows. This solved my problem and now i'm back up and running. I believe that it was corrupted and from the way it behaved i had no other choice but to install windows fresh and over write the current one. Thanks again, without the help i got here i'd have been lost.

Are you getting this 100c error using the F11 function to enter the recovery partition at boot or when using the recovery disks and where did you obtain the recovery disks.

Be sure you disconnect all external devices except the keyboard and mouse when doing the restore.

I made recovery discs when i bought the computer from the system restore tab where you can do that or not, an option. I tried them and it wouldn't accept them so i went to the system restore in windows and went thru the process there after backing up all of my data i wanted to keep and when it shuts down to do the restore it starts the process then shows the error code then just reboots my computer. I will try what you said and disconnect other devices, only thing i have is my printer and i forgot about it. So will see if this helps, thank you so much.

System restore in windows will do no good, you must do a proper Factory Restore.  That is why you got the 100c error because you tried within Windows.

Repeatedly tap the F11 key at boot and see if you can get into the recovery manager to perform the factory restore, hopefully it is not corrupted.

It would appear that the recovery disks you say you created may not be good.  BTW: did you change the boot order in the BIOS when you tried them.

If you live in the USA/Canada, call HP at this number 1-800-334-5144, and see if you can still get a set of recovery disks.

Otherwise via the WorldWide site:

If HP does not have them and your computer is   a6700f   , they are available at Computer Surgeons:
