I have the late 2016 macbook pro with touch bar. it only has usb-c connections. I have the Apple adapter that converts HDMI to usb-c. When I connect this monitor it takes a full 2 minutes to connect/display. While trying to connect , it flashes, goes dark, displays "check video cable", and repeats.  Then right around 2 minutes, all is perfect. Please help! Using a HDMI cable with the Apple adapter to usb-c

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums. 🙂 I came across your post and would like to help.

I understand that you have an HP Pavilion 23xw IPS LED Backlit Monitor. I read that you connect this monitor via an HDMI to USB - c converter to your MacBook. It takes about 2 minutes for the display to appear clearly on the monitor post the connection and it is not an instant clear display.

Based on your inputs, looks like the monitor is perfectly alright. Maybe the monitor is taking the time to convert the signal from the MacBook through the converter. I did some research and found that the recommended resolution for the monitor is 1920 x 1080 @ 60 Hz. Please ensure this is the resolution set on your MacBook and is supported by the converter.

Please click here to view the detailed user guide of the monitor.

I hope this information helps. Let me know the outcome. Cheers! 🙂
