I don't get it.

You have the files I have zipped up and attached below (under Attachments), corrrect?

You have a formatted in FAT32 USB flash drive, correct?

I just opened the folder with the files in it and opened the flash drive to a blank window.

Then I selected all of the files in the folder, right clicked, 'copy,' and then moused over to the open flash drive window and right clicked 'paste.'

Then they just copied to my flash drive without any problems.

If I had a dc7600 in front of me right now, I would be ready to flash the BIOS.

It appears from reviewing the specifications for the computer that you updated the operating system to Win 7.  If this is correct, you will have to reinstall the original OS before you can update the BIOS.  Here is the Drivers & Software page for the computer:

You can look at the drop-down menu to see which OS'es are supported.

Please click the "Thumbs up + button" if I have helped you and click "Accept as Solution" if your problem is solved.

Hi:

As I have explained to other folks on this forum, you can flash the BIOS without going through the operating system on the dc7600, and many other HP business desktop PC's.

That means you can have any operating system you want on there -- even Windows 8.1, and still be able to safely flash the BIOS.

Here is how to do that...you download the BIOS version you want.  For the dc7600, the last revision would be v1.61.

Don't run it.  On some operating systems it may not run anyway.

http://h20566.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=499679&swItemId=ir_73174_2&swEnvOid=1098

Then you download and install this free file utility.

http://www.7-zip.org/

After you install 7-zip, right click on the downloaded BIOS file and select 7-zip from the list of options.

Have 7-Zip Extract to: and let it extract the files into the name of the folder.

Now you see all the extracted files in the folder.

The files you want are the ones listed in the folder labeled DOS Flash.

Format a USB flash drive with the FAT 32 file system.

Copy the file contents (not the whole folder) of the DOS Flash folder to the formatted USB flash drive.

Shut down the PC and insert the flash drive in a USB port.

Turn on the PC and tap the F10 key at the beginning of the HP welcome screen to access the BIOS.

Go to the File menu...You will see a command called Flash System ROM.

Select that command and you will now see the contents of your USB flash drive.

Follow the prompts to update the BIOS.

Make sure you only have the keyboard, mouse, monitor and that usb flash drive connected to the PC when you do this procedure.

Here is the link to the service reference card for your model and it has the location of the BIOS setup menu commands.

You can see on the card below where to find the flash system rom command.

Hi:

All I can say is try unzipping the files with 7-zip again to a folder and make sure you know where the folder is going to.

You should be able to use your windows search option.

If you let 7-zip extract the files into the name of the folder (sp44223) the folder should show up somewhere on the hard drive during the windows search.

As far as backing up the BIOS, since I have never done that before, I can't advise you as to what to do.
