Product: HP Compaq CQ58
Operating System: Linux

i was given this computer and it has preinstalled windows 8 but is running off this linux mint 17.2 cinnamon instead how do i get linux mint off of here and back to the preinstalled windows 8???

If Windows 8 was preinstalled and the Recovery Partition was not destroyed by the Linux install, then Turn on the computer and repeatedly press the F11 key about once every second until the Choose and option screen is displayed.

Complete guide HERE.  If the Linux destroyed the Recovery Partition, then scroll to the heading on that guide that fits the situation.  If you have the Recovery Media disk set use that.  If not, then order a set from HP.
