That worked great... NOW, how do you tighten the tension on the monitor pivot/hinge?

Hi, Chris,

My wife's HP Envy Recline 23 has developed the "loose hinge" issue right at the most used range of travel where it is really loose and droops now.

I removed the arrow-indicated 5 screws in the base of the computer , but nothing seems to be loose for me to remove. It appears to me that the motherboard is probably attached to the bottom plate. This also apeears to be the part that I should now be able to pry away from theside pieces.

I have tried light persuasion with a screwdriver, but I will damage the soft aluminum or plastic if I try to use any more force. Nothing seems to be moving. and I can't find ANY pictures or exploded diagrams that indicate to me what needs to come off to give me access to the hinge tightening adjusments.

I don't suppose you made pictures, or could add some more description of both what piece is supposed to come loose form the bottom (the whole plate that has the screw arrow markings on it and serial number)?

I found an HP video on how to remove the large plastic piece that covers the back of the monitor screen, but don't see any adjustments on the end nearest the offending hinge. And your description seems to indicate that the adjustment is on the motherboard end of things.

The computer is under wrranty for a few days more, so I will send it off to HP for a week or more if I must.

But if I can do the repair myself , it would be better , all around.

Thanks to all who have conrtibuted to this thread.

Bob

Chris,

Is the "back panel" (typos? )  you refer to the plate that is facing the table and down when the computer is in use, and also appears to hold the motherboard? Does it require much force to pry loose? I realize there may be loose wires and connections when it comes out, right?

Thanks,

Bob
