OK..let's try this:
1. Identify the slot where you have installed the card.
2. Go into the BIOS, and disable "Option ROM download" for the slot where you have the card installed. This can be found under "Advanced -- Slot Settings" in the BIOS.
if you are unable to get into the BIOS, please remove the cad and make the setting before installing the card.
Let us know how it goes.
Thanks,
Sasi

Maybe - try disabling the onboard SAS controller from Device Security under BIOS.

OK....latest on this is that there is a known incompatibility between Z820 and LSI 9212 controller.
It is suggested to upgrade the firmware of the onboard controller to the latest; but that is not easy to get.
I am checking this, and will update as soon as I have somthing. Meanwhile, did you try disabling the onboard SAS controller? Did t change the behaviour?
Thanks,
Sasi

The Z820 onboard LSI controller requires the same firmware as required by LSI SAS 9212 4i controller. This is evident from HP webpage "LSI SAS 2308-9212-4i Driver for Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit Editions) - System Requirements tab, on this URL:
In fact it says:
"- HP SoftPaq Number SP56144, "LSI SAS 9212-4i Firmware Utility", is also required with this SoftPaq. HP SoftPaq Number SP56144 can be downloaded from the HP website."
The HP website referred to is:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp56001-56500/56144.exe
It is notable that the System Requirements for Z820 driver for the LSI on-board controller recognize the need for the sp56144 firmware, whereas the explanatory notes 56144.html for the same firmware mention only the Z620, Z420 and earlier HP workstations as targets for this Firmware package.

As far as I know, the LSI 9212 firmware doesn't work with the onboard controller; but you can give it a try.
An update for the onboard controller is expected soon, and I will post the same as soon as I have it.
Thanks,
Sasi

OK..here is the firmware update which *might* resolve this problem:
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp68501-69000/sp68642.exe
Things to note when you update:
1. You need to remove any LSI HBAs from the system when you update FW on onboard SAS, otherwise the update may find the card and update the FW on the card instead of updating the onboard SAS.
2. Similarly, if you want to update the firmware of the 9212 card, you have to disable the onboard SAS controller in BIOS before updating the HBA, then re-enable the onboard controller after the FW update.
Hope this helps to resolve the problem.
Thanks,
Sasi
