Replaced the one I'm working on with a Gigabyte 880GM-UD2H.  A power adapter is required and in my case a longer cable for the rear exhaust fan on the Pavillion p6310.  USB, Media Card slots, all work fine.  At least HDMI was gained...

I am not putting any money into my P6310f HP computer. All my drives are not recognized. I am sure the M2N78-lA is bad. After reading this thread I am going to buy a new computer and cut my losses.

I am having this same problem and reading this entire thread I am dumping my HP P6310F.

My son felt he could get a different brand MOBO to work in my computer but I decided to buy a ASUS CM1630-08 and walk away from HP.

You should consider salvaging parts from that computer and selling them on ebay.  Or perhaps selling the entire dead unit to someone willing to swap in a motherboard.  I found it rather painless (with the exception of needing a new Windows7 Version.

Just thought I should put my two cents in, considering I'm having the same exact problem. Just before my computer became unbootable, though, I received quite a few BSOD's that said nvstor.64.sys failed - which just happens to be in the sata_ide folder on the Vista recovery disk. Just further confirmation, I suppose. Mine is probably about 3 - 6 months out of warranty, so the time frame matches up. Funny how these things fail when their still so new. My ten year old Dell (that still works beautifully, with only minor upgrades) is laughing at it right now. I've already replaced the hard drive and SATA cables; it looks like I'll be buying a new (non Pegatron) motherboard. From what I've read that's the only fix that's actually worked so far. And that's really not a fix at all, is it?

I don't know if it's related or not, but I feel like venting, so here goes: I can't even install Ubuntu to an external drive (using an external DVD drive) for some reason. Probably related somehow... And with the heat buildup it probably wouldn't matter much - I imagine I would end up frying every other component on the motherboard eventually if I did get it to work.

Don't you just love spending about $1000 on a paperweight?

And yet another satisfied HP customer.

I remember an HP lawsuit a while back regarding a different motherboard.  Don't throw away your PCs and keep your old motherboards around IMO.  We should start printing out these threads that pop up in case the threads disappear...

Got another one with same issue. No drives found. As my luck would have it the PC is out of warrant as of 04/2011. The tech on the phone just said to go to local technitian.

I wish HP would admit to the this and do a recall

It's getting more and more evident that HP has a problem with that crappy board although they don't want to admit it.

I own a HP slimline s5360f model that is 13 months and a half old and that just died the same as the other ones reported on the previous posts.

HP wants me to spend $311.57 for a new M2N78-LA board... which I wont.

I'm going to sue them to have that PC repaired for free. And I'm going to win my case.

As I reside in Province of Quebec, Canada, we have some very good laws protecting the consumers, "The consumer protection Act" even overcome the limited manufacturer's warranty in many or most cases.

It states that: "Goods forming the object of a contract must be durable in normal use for a reasonable length time, having regard to their price, the terms of the contract and the conditions of their use."

I consider the PC I paid over $900 (Taxes included) one year or so ago as not served it's purpose for long enough considering the price I paid for. They will still have to honor their warranty and have it repaired for free...  It may take some time if I have to go through all the process but I wont let them go away with this one. I don't like throwing my money away for nothing.

I also own an HP Pavilion m9160f (Q-6700), a Pavilion g7-1075dx notebook, an HP Officejet 6500 wi-fi printer and an HP-1350 all-in-one printer.

Even by telling the customer support and the technical support that I was a regular and returning client with them, that didn't change a thing... Guess what? Maybe my next devices will be Dell, Gateway or Acer but surely not HP.

I also have an HP paper weight. Luckily  mine wasn't $1000.

I also have gone back to my 8 year old DELL.  And decided NOT to sink any more money into this HP Pavilion p6214y. Even if I decided to replace the MB, the only places that have them, sale them used. Thus, putting me at risk for the same problem all over again. Not even HP carries them. I would rather wait until the holiday season and get me a really sweet Dell than keep going in circles trying to fix HP's faulty junk. I have three HP pcs and they all have issues that began just out of the year warranty, but this HP Pavilion p6214y is the worst. My two Dells are fine and both years old. Usually if a HD dies, you pop it our and pop in another. Never have I had issues like this where half of the machine works and the other half doesnt. One half says oh yeah you do have a HD the other half says no you don't.

TOTAL CRAPPY MACHINE.

And the sad part is, I am pretty sure HP knew they were crappy when they sold them.
