This Windows 7 PC has been running fine for the past one and a half years.  Now when booting the system hangs displaying the message "Missing MBR-helper."  An internet search turned up a solution using the Windows 7 installation disk which I don't have because HP pre-installed Windows 7 and didn't send the installation disk with the machine.  Can anyone suggest a solution that doesn't require the Windows 7 installation disk?

Thank you for your assistance.

Chuck

Hi upatick,

Try tapping F8 at boot. This should load Win 7 System Recovery options.

Please see this article but skip the Win 7 install disk requirement. HP includes the Recovery Environment in the factory image.

So you don't need a Win 7 install disc to fix the MBR.

If this fails you can download the correct Win 7 ISO version matching your installed version of Win 7 here.

Burn to disk and you now have a Win 7 install disk.

Jaco,

Thank you for your assistance.  Your solution worked without having to download the installation CD, although, I did download the CD just in case I need it in the future.  Your help is much appreciated.
