I eventually got it to work. However, i had to use my old power supply. I tried all instructions down to the wire thirty times before resorting to changing power supplies.

I have an identical power supply, which I switched out. I followed the hybrid routine of blow dryer, voltage switch, unplug motherboard routine, which worked I the 7th try.

I wasn't touching it, following a failed attempt to do the unplugging routine when the green light went solid.

Oddly, this is the same last resort I tried several times in the past, with success each time, with the SAME two power supplies.

I hope to learn the exact routine that works regularly. I don't know if something I'm doing is fouling it up.

I used a dedicated power outlet to plug the PC's surge protector when it finally worked. The other variable is the used power supply.

If the green light continues to flash after rest does that mean I need to replace the PSU? Thank you for your help. I know this is a very old conversation but then again it's an old computer!

Just had the same problem, used the blow dry cure, and can't stop laughing.  The next time this problem occurs, I am going to try flicking the fan blade to get it started.  My guess is that the power supply is protected against operating without a funtioning fan.  The heat from the blow dryer would not be a part of the solution, but the flow of air starting the fan would be.  Permanent cure then will be to replace fan.  If anybody finds that this works, give us a post.

I am soooo SHOCKED that the blow dryer thing worked!!!! WOW, thanks! curious as to why though....did cold and hlot, not sure which one did it.  Maybe the fan sticks and the air helps it get going??? don't know, but it worked!!!!!! thanks again....gonna try it on my Big screen TV that has the same exact symptoms....

I had this issue as well. I tried all of the solutions presented, and none worked except the hot air. I used a heat gun rather than a hair drier (because it was the closest thing I had). The heat was pretty intense, so I kept it at a distance and did it slow, taking about a minute to heat up the power supply (PSU) enough for the light to go solid.

Every time the PC powered off this would have to be repeated, so I made sure it didn't power off at all. The PSU has gone bad, is the problem. I ordered another one (they are cheap at $20 or so for something equivalent) and replaced it, and have had smooth sailing so far!

If you're scared to replace your PSU, don't be. Lots of videos and instructions are online for that. Basically, unplug everything, make sure you're grounded, unscrew it, put in the new one, and put the cables and screws back where they went. You DO NOT want to keep heating your PSU just to get it to turn on. If it's that far gone, it's only going to get worse.

I read this and thought what a load of rubbish. However, i had to try it as i needed to get some files off my PC!  I too almost gave up but IT WORKS!!!  I cant believe i managed to get my PC switched on by using a hairdryer!!  THANK YOU SO MUCH :cathappy:

OMG, this idea was fabulous! At first I was worried because it was taking so long for the green light to become solid, but just when I almost gave up, it was solid... Who knew that a hair dryer (my wifes hair dryer) would work! The power of the internet with its search engines are the BOMB! Thanks guys. Like you said be patient, and it will get done...
