I'm trying to boot from a cd, but when I go to the boot options at startup, it is asking for a password. I have removed the CMOS battery overnight and that reset the clock but it is still asking for a password. I can not get to any of the settings because of this bios password.

Is there a default password for this model?

How can I fix this so I can choose to boot from the DVD drive?

Hi:

You have to look at the clear CMOS diagram and the clear password diagram together, as it were.

The left side (pins 2, 4, & 6) is the CMOS side, and you leave that jumper alone (leave it on pins 4 & 6).

You want to move the jumper pictured on the right side of the diagram to clear the password.

You remove it from pins 5 & 3, and place it on pins 1 & 3.

Of course following all of the steps provided on the link.

Hi:

If this is the model motherboard you have (I can't find a plain p7-1000), please read the info on how to clear the BIOS password.

I found the motherboard here:

http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02980014

But on my board I have two jumpers on the PWD pins covering pins 3 through 6. The instructions show that I should move the single jumper from pins 1&3 to 3&5. I guess I could remove one of the jumpers and set the other jumper as in the diagram, but I'm not sure at this point. Why does this board have 2 jumpers? Will leaving only 1 damage the motherboard?

Ok, so what I did originally was to move both the jumpers to clear CMOS and the Password at the same time. It cleared CMOS (Date and Time), but I am still asked for a setup password when I try to enter BIOS or get to the boot menu.

Got it! 🙂

Apparently I had to change the jumper configuration to as shown on the motherboard and then move only the PWD jumper, start the computer to POST, turn it off, put the single jumper back, and whalaa - it worked!

Thanks for the help!

You're very welcome.

Glad you got the PW cleared.
