trying to turn on my HP compaq d330 but red light flashing and beeping and nothing comes on help a newbie please

You can try removing and reseating the memory and see if that works.
If that doesn't work, remove all but one memory module (if the PC has more than one), and see if the PC runs normally with one memory chip. If it beeps, remove and replace with the memory you removed and keep doing that until you find the bad memory chip.

You will need to count the beeps and flashes, and read page two of the link below -- the section labeled
Chassis LED and Beep Messages.
