Social media can be a powerful platform for communicating with customers and gathering feedback, helping resolve issues and responding to complaints.  At HP, we’re trying to reach out to our customers across all platforms—traditional, non-traditional, offline, online. That’s one of the main reasons we started the consumer support forum and are continually working to improve the site.

At this year’s SXSW Interactive Festival taking place in Austin, TX, HP will host some of the most notable customer support experts and execs from a few of the biggest names in the corporate sphere, including Comcast’s Frank Eliason (aka @ComcastCares), Microsoft’s general manager of Community and Online Support Toby Richards, and social media expert and analyst Jeremiah Owyang - all moderated by social media maven and CNET reporter, Caroline McCarthy.  This panel, Customer Support in a 140 Character World, will discuss the current state of customer support in today’s social media world and whether or not some of these tools really are the best connection point with customers and consumers.  We will participate in a frank conversation about the good, the bad and the ugly when it comes to social media centric customer support.

How you can be a part of the conversation

As you are all such an integral part of our community here at HP, we wanted to be sure and invite you to join this spirited dialogue. If you happen to be attending SXSW at the end of this week, we invite you to stop by Hilton A/B on Monday, March 15 at 5pm and experience the panel live.

Even those that cannot make it to Austin can join the conversation.  First, you can follow the panel discussion on Monday, March 15 at 5pm CT through a dedicated Twitter hashtag, #140customersupport.  In case you’re unfamiliar with Twitter hashtags, simply search for "#140customersupport” on http://search.twitter.com/ and you’ll see a real-time stream of discussion.  We’ll be using the hashtag to highlight interesting comments, questions and responses from the panel as it happens, as will other audience members. You can even submit questions using the hashtag that may make their way to the panelists.

Second, we’ll be gathering questions over the next few days from the Forum—taking input from you guys on the topics you’d love to see addressed. Feel free to submit your thoughts and feedback here.

So as a recap—you can attend, or chime in through Twitter with the #140customersupport or share your thoughts and feedback here on the forum, this thread. Simply logon and hit reply. We hope you’ll join us on Monday.

If you do make it to the forum. Please track me down. I'm really excited about SXSW and hope many of you may be there.

I was told when I bought this computer with Vista OP that If I knew XP OP that operating would be more than easy. That was a lie. I have nothing but problems trying to figure out how to operate this damned thing. So, now I must study in detail once again on how to use a new operating system. Never believe any computer sales person. They always lie!
