I have a new HP Omen 15" laptop with an Nvidia GTX 1070 GPU. The laptop run 144Hz/G-sync, but when connecting my HP Omen 27" external monitor, 144Hz/G-Sync capable, it defaults to 59/60 Hz, and all other frequency settings is missing or grayed out in windows awtup and Nvidia driver setup.

I am using a HDMI connection between the two. I have installed the .inf file from HP, but that didn't help. What do I have to do to get my HP monitor and HP laptop to work togther using 144Hz and G-Sync?

Oh, I'm running win 10 and the Nvidia driver is v. 416.16.

The only thing I can think of is to try the Display Port if you have it available on your laptop, if you have a DP cable to connect with.

Also, post the model numbers of each product so we can look up specs when answering.

The laptop is: Omen by HP - 15-dc0805no, and the display is: Omen by HP 27 - 4GNO5EA#UUW.

I'll buy a DP - MiniDP adapter later today and try that. I can't find anything in the documentation for both products that tell that you got to use DP to run 144HZ, but I'll try it, and see what happens.

I find it a little odd that I can't buy two HP Omen products and can't connect them out of the box due to a missing cable. I would expect that HP supplied the needed cables. Thanks for taking your time to answer my post.

It must be running thru the display port.  Not sure the adapter is going to get you there.  I run 165 hz through display port but when I use HDMI connection or anything else from the Vid card I cannot get 165.
