Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I had 8700k and 3090 and G2 working relatively fine (one quick full RMA for burn in screen but otherwise fine). PLaying mainly DCS and FS2020.  Wanted more FPS and started upgrading. Z590 (Asus hero), 11900k, gen4 pci ssd, faster ram..

Somewhere along the way my headset started not working at 90 hz ... not sure where and not sure if its the hardware changes, some updated software component or the headset itself that can't do 90 anymore.  Had the headset and cable replaced by HP a second time and it still does not work at 90hz... so I essentially spent thousand+ for less performance... any googleable solution has been tried (tried all USB ports , removed third monitor,  pci gen3, old drivers, remove oc, fresh install, new cable, new headset, externally powered usb)

I spend more time trying to get g2 to work than working in week.  And clearly spend more time trying to get it to 90hz than simming. Lol this thing is a nightmare.

So now I took my 3090 (the only gpu i have) and put in my B build with my older parts (8087k, z390 prime-a) and tried to go back to the time my headset could do 90hz... same result  ... works at 60 hz... black screen at 90.  So suspects are now : the headset (its new from 3 days ago) the headset  cable new from 3 days ago, or 3090 strix for which I updated the firmware from 2 to 4 during the period where things went south and can't rollback

man... this worked for months ...

Contact (call) HP Business Support and request the replacement of your current cable to the latest revision of cable (under warranty)

Explicitly ask for:

  • Part Number: M52188-001
Part Description: SPS-CA ACTIVE 6M BLACK /W SWITCH

This is larger and has a power switch, and 'should' resolve your issue 🙂

Photo of both cables (larger one being the newer revision of cable)

You are right. What I did is purchase a another full headset, swapped the cable and returned the new headset with the broken cable . This allowed me to bypass HP support that clearly was sending me a defective cable to replace a defective cable.  It's been working ever since but I understand now that this cable is sub par and will break again so I will take your advice and try to get the new bigger model. Thanks.
