HP Omen APEX 350
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I bought the HP omen APEX 350 a while ago, and I've never been able to make the windows key & omen key do anything.

I just formatted completely my windows, and install a new one (fron scratch, there is nothing from the previous one). Then I installed all the windows updates / basic sofwares + the SteelSeries Engine 3.

So I have:

- a brand new windows installed Win 10 PRO 64x, version 1909

- Steelseries engine version 3.16.2

I heard that the windows gaming mode could prevent the windows key to work, so I disabled it but it didn't changed anything.

In the end the Omen Key isn't much relevant to me, it would be cool to assign something to it but whatever..

On the other hand the windows key is super important for me as it have a lot of shortcuts related to it.

How can I make in work ?

Thanks.

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help,  I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:
Create a shortcut for a program or file: ( source computer hope )

  1. Open the folder or directory that contains the program or file you want as a shortcut.
  2. Right-click on the program/file and click Create Shortcut.
  3. Once done, this creates a shortcut named "Shortcut to <your program/file>" or "<your program/file> - Shortcut" in the current directory. If you want to rename this shortcut, right-click the file and click rename.
  4. Once the above steps have been completed, you can copy or cut this shortcut and paste it anywhere.

Assign a shortcut key to that Windows shortcut:

Once the shortcut is created, to assign a shortcut key to that Windows shortcut, follow the steps below.

  1. Right-click the shortcut and select Properties.
  2. Click on the Shortcut tab.
  3. Click in the Shortcut key box and press a letter. For example, if you press the "P" key, the shortcut key to run this shortcut will be Ctrl+Alt+P, meaning that pressing the CtrlAlt, and "P" keys at the same time run the shortcut.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hello,

Thank you for your response, but you do understand that that the key that isn't working on my keyboard is this one:

The shortcut that are natively functioning on any keyboards with any windows (for example WIN key + E -> open explorer) are not working with my HP omen keyboard.

I'm trying to fix a keyboard/HP soft issue rather than a windows-shortcut-creating process ;-).

Thanks.

This looks like a hardware issue with the buttons as re-installing the operating system should have fixed any software/ driver related problem.

I'd suggest you Contact HP in your region regarding this.

Have a great day!

Well, when I remap both windows button into like the "E" key (with the "Steelseries engine"), they are working fine, so it's definitely not a hardware issue..

Just that with this keyboard the windows buttons just won't work properly with the Steelseries engine (also when I try "WIN + E", I get a windows error sound notification, so it's definitely recognized, just not working..)

I don't know where to look anymore (as I'm a software engineer, I've been looking around a lot, tried a loooooot of things, but i'm out of ideas).

Thank you for posting back.

Have you checked the keyboard functionality with MS word, Excel or Powerpoint? If no, please try to workaround with MS office app to isolate the issue.

Keep me posted!
