Hello!
I bought this feburary this monitor from Amazon.
And since then I have this problem!
I have temporary and risky solutions for that, but I won't do it anymore, so also i will ask you all for a better solution 🙂
Infos:
OS: Windows 10 Pro 64-Bit
MB: MSI X470 GAMING PRO CARBON (Latest BIOS)
CPU: AMD Ryzen 2700x
GPU: MSI GTX 970 (Latest Nvidia driver)
Other: ram, hdds in raid, m.2 with windows blablabla
I use 2 monitors:
- ASUS VX 238H at 60hz over HDMI cable
- HP 25x at 144hz (Monitor Firmware Version: "ATM 111") over DP cable (1.2) (As main monitor)
So the problem explained:
Sometimes (randomly) my HP 25x won't detected or recognized by my Windows/Computer and only the ASUS works. WHY!?
If that happens, then I can do what I want, it will not be recognized.
That does not help: Turn HP25x off and on. Displayport cable out / in. Set HP25x to 60hz. HP25x factory setting. Use HDMI cable. Power cable out and wait until power is off the board by pressing the power button and back in. Installing the driver from HP (Link). HP25x worship that it should work.
I have to use my risky solutions, that i will explain later.
If I turn off the HP25x, Windows plays the (device disconnected) sound, if I turn it back on, Windows plays the (device connected) sound and my mouse disappears for 3 seconds, but i got only the (No signal flying around).
In Windows display settings, it shows the HP 25x as a unknown second monitor:
Windows display settings
Only if the HP25x works, Windows shows 2 of the drivers.
Device-Manager
Nvidia shows this: Why WQHD and DVI connection ?
Nvidia settings
Nvidia settings PhysX
My own and risky solutions, that I do not want to use anymore (Warning, this can cause hardware and software damage):
- Installing each time NVIDIA driver new (Clean install)
- - Turn PC off. (Both monitors have to be on)
- Start it again. If the mouse and keyboard get power (LEDs starting to shine), immediately press the instant-reset button from the computer case and then wait for the leds again, to press instant-reset button again.
- Let Windows boot into the lock-screen.
- Turn the HP25x off (You will hear the device disconnected sound) and turn it back on (device connected sound).
- Jeah! It will work for 4-5 times booting up to windows.
- (If it didn't work, do the steps from 2. again.)
Can someone help me with my HP 25x Gaming Display?

Hello @MR_CLEAN
I don't know that I can find a solution. There have been other complaints like yours on other forums and the issue seemed to be pointed to that GTX 970 not being able to run dual monitors with different native refresh rates, not necessarily a fault in the monitors themselves.
- You don't have any DVI adapter plugged into the DVI port, no matter if its being used or not, correct?
- If you unplug the ASUS monitor from that graphics card and ONLY have the HP monitor plugged in, does the HP monitor work as it should now?
Let me know.

Exact. But only if i restart my computer
Yes. Point is, every time you restart you PC with only the HP connected, it works as it should.
If so, the issue lies within that GTX 970. Its an issue with that card and Windows 10.
You could try installing an older NVIDIA driver, but I don't have confidence that an older driver will work any differently.
You have already tried setting up the refresh rates to both be 60Hz in Windows and the same resolution and that did not work either.
Does the HP have a setting in the monitor itself that will let you lower the refresh rate also? If so, does that make any difference?
Beyond that, I don't think you're going to find a fix. I believe that 970 wants both monitors to be the same native refresh rate. and will continue to have issues otherwise. Perhaps you could also ask on the NVIDIA forum?
