Hello,

I have a HP 460 Multi-Device, and I want use the the functions keys (F1->F12), using the media keys with FN button and use HOME, END, PAGE UP and PAGE DOWN and using CALC, CLEAR, BRIGHTNESS control with FN button.

When use the option Block Key Function, changing to use functions keys and in the same time change to CALC, CLEAR, BRIGHTNESS control.

How I can use the function keys and HOME, END, PAGE UP and PAGE DOWN without mapping keys?

Hi @TedR7,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding using function keys and media keys on the HP 460 Multi-Device!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Function Key Mode: Your keyboard may have a 'fn' lock key or a setting that toggles between using the function keys as standard (F1-F12) and their alternate functions, which are usually media controls or system shortcuts.

  • Toggle Fn Lock: Look for a key marked with 'fn' lock, which is sometimes indicated by a lock icon. Pressing this key in combination with 'fn' might change the function key behavior.
  • Change Settings: Some HP keyboards allow changing the function key setting in the BIOS or through specific software provided by HP. Boot into BIOS and look for 'Action Keys Mode' or a similar setting to toggle the function key behavior.

Using Media Keys: If your keyboard's function keys are set to act as media keys by default, you can press 'fn' in combination with a function key to access the traditional F1-F12 functionalities.

Page Controls (HOME, END, PAGE UP, PAGE DOWN): Often these keys are shared with arrow keys or require using a combination with 'fn' to access them.

  • Accessing Page Controls: Press 'fn' along with the appropriate arrow key or key to access HOME, END, PAGE UP, and PAGE DOWN functionalities.

Using CALC, CLEAR, and BRIGHTNESS: These additional functionalities might also require using the 'fn' key in combination with specific keys or buttons.

HP Software and Drivers: Ensure you have the latest drivers and any proprietary HP software that might provide additional keyboard customization options. Check HP's official support site for updates specific to your keyboard model.

I hope this helps.

Hi,

I can use the FN button to access the funcions, but for me the better way its I can programer the HOME, END, PG UP and PG DW or only block functions buttons (F1..F2).

I'm using the HP Accesory Center and when I change to block functions, this block change the keys HOME, END, PG UP and PG DW to CALC, CLEAR, BRIGHTNESS control to. Maybe HP can create a update to HP Accesory Center to change only FN buttons and not affect the HOME, END, PG UP and PG DW or I can change this buttons functions to?

Hi @TedR7,

From what you’re describing, the situation is:

On the HP 460 Multi-Device Keyboard, the Fn key behavior is controlled by HP Accessory Center.

When you enable Block Function Keys (to make F1–F12 work without pressing Fn), it also remaps other dual-function keys (like Home, End, PgUp, PgDn) into CALC, CLEAR, BRIGHTNESS, etc.

This means you can’t currently separate the two behaviors, which is why you’re losing Home/End/PgUp/PgDn.

Current Limitations

Unfortunately, with the current HP Accessory Center software, there is no option to independently lock only F1–F12 while keeping Home/End/PgUp/PgDn on their standard roles. The “Block Function Key” mode applies globally to all keys that share Fn functions.

Workarounds You Can Try

Use Fn + Arrow Keys

On most HP keyboards, Home, End, PgUp, and PgDn are tied to the arrow cluster with Fn.

Example: Fn + ↑ = PgUp, Fn + ↓ = PgDn, Fn + ← = Home, Fn + → = End.

This still works even when Function Lock is enabled.

Custom Key Mapping (if absolutely needed)

You mentioned avoiding remapping, but tools like PowerToys Keyboard Manager (Microsoft official tool) can reassign keys at the OS level without modifying HP’s software.

Example: You could remap CALC → Home, or Brightness → PgUp, so they behave the way you expect.

Check for HP Accessory Center Updates

HP does release feature updates occasionally.

It may be worth suggesting feedback directly through HP Accessory Center → “Feedback” option, as they can add more granular control (Fn Lock only for F1–F12).

Recommendation

For now:
If you want F1–F12 as primary AND keep Home/End/PgUp/PgDn, the only way is to either:

Use Fn + arrows for navigation keys, or

Remap the CALC/CLEAR/BRIGHTNESS keys back to navigation functions using PowerToys (until HP provides a software update).

I hope this helps.
