HP 970 Programmable Wireless Keyboard

My keyboard will randomly add an extra space when clicking on the spacebar. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers. I tried installing the fix listed on this site. It still does it. It is not under warranty.

Hi @evenblue,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're dealing with a frustrating issue where your HP 970 Programmable Wireless Keyboard randomly adds an extra space when pressing the spacebar. Since reinstalling the drivers and applying the fix didn't help, here are a few more steps you can try to resolve the issue.

Clean the Spacebar Mechanism

Sometimes, dirt or debris under the key can cause it to behave erratically. Use compressed air to blow out any particles from under the spacebar. You can also use a soft brush to clean around the key.

Check for Interference

Wireless keyboards can sometimes be affected by interference from other devices. Try using the keyboard in a different location, or move any devices that could be causing interference, such as wireless routers, mobile phones, or other wireless peripherals, further away.

Test the Keyboard on Another Computer

To rule out any software or system-specific issues, try the keyboard on a different computer. If the issue persists, it’s more likely a problem with the keyboard itself.

Adjust Keyboard Repeat Settings

It’s possible that the keyboard's repeat settings are too sensitive. On Windows:

  • Go to Control Panel > Keyboard.
  • Adjust the Repeat delay and Repeat rate to see if that helps reduce the extra space issue.

Update Keyboard Firmware

Check if there is any firmware update available for the HP 970. Sometimes, updating the firmware can resolve unexpected issues like this.

Try Using a Different USB Receiver

If you're using a USB receiver for the wireless connection, try using a different USB port or testing it on another computer to see if the issue persists.

Check for External Software Conflicts

Sometimes, third-party software like keyboard customization tools or background processes can interfere with the keyboard's function. Try disabling any unnecessary programs to see if that resolves the issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
