I have unfortunately just had an accident with my keyboard - I have spilt a drink on part of it! I have seen that we might be able to remove the switches, it's not in warranty so want to clean it myself, so would anyone be able to give some advice on this?

Hi @MortyHeHe,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Power Off and Unplug: First, make sure your keyboard is disconnected from your computer to avoid any electrical damage.

Remove Keycaps: Use a keycap puller if you have one. Gently pull up the keycaps to remove them from the keyboard. Be careful not to force them, as this might damage the switches.

Clean Keycaps: Once removed, soak the keycaps in warm soapy water. Leave them to soak for a while, then gently scrub them with a soft brush. Rinse and dry them completely before refitting.

Address the Keyboard Base:

  • Surface Cleaning: Wipe the surface of the keyboard with a microfiber cloth lightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol. This helps in removing any sticky residue without leaving moisture.
  • Inspect and Clean Switches: For mechanical switches, gently clean around the switch with a soft brush or a can of compressed air. Be cautious to avoid getting any liquid into the switches themselves.

Drying: Allow all parts of the keyboard to dry thoroughly. This could take several hours or even overnight. Ensure that everything is completely dry before reassembling the keyboard and connecting it to power.

Assembly: Once dry, reattach the keycaps to the switches by pressing them down gently until they click into place.

I hope this helps.
