Hi,
So long story…
I purchased my headset around June 2021. This headset came with the version 1 of the connecting cable. It worked ok, but I had odd problems with it:
- Randomly cutting out when in use
- Could not run at 90Hz (only at 60Hz)
I admit I just lived with it for quite a while, but heard about HP making a version 2 of the cable, so called them up to say about my problems and I got sent the new cable very quickly.
This new cable worked amazingly, no more cutting out, ran at 90Hz no problems, and I even felt the display quality actually looked better. Hurray!
About a month of use though and then suddenly one day the cable dies completely. When I connect my headset up, Windows Mixed Reality does not even recognise that any headset is connected, and windows displays errors saying “USB device not recognised”.
The headset does not power up, no display or any lights appear on the headset itself at all.

I know this is a problem with the cable, because I still have my V1 cable, and when connecting it up with this, it still works with the headset (although still only at 60Hz).

I assumed this was a bad replacement cable and eventually got around to contacting HP again and getting another replacement.
I received this replacement last week and it worked perfectly again. However, 7 days later this second cable also breaks. It is now doing the exact same thing! USB device not recognised. I can’t believe at this point that this is just my bad luck, am I doing something wrong here?
- Is this a problem with the headset itself? But then how come my V1 cable still works with it?
- The replacement cables did not come with a replacement power supply, is the old one causing them to fry?
- I always leave the headset plugged in, but turn off my PC. Although the headset is off, is having the power connected 24/7 killing the cable? Although, I used my V1 cable like this for months without this happening.
I fear this problem is just going to go on and on until eventually my warranty expires and I wont get any help anymore. Any advice?
