HP Reverb G2

Hello,

I have a problem with a VR Headset and the latest Windows 11 Update(24H2). The HP Reverb G2 requires Microsoft's Mixed Reality Portal software, which they have discontinued and no longer works at all in the latest Windows 11 24H2 Update. What are the solutions/workarounds to get this perfectly fine VR Headset, that works on another machine I haven't upgraded just fine, now that Microsoft has stopped supporting that piece of critical software for this device? Are their any plans for a compatible replacement? Is HP doing something about this? Or did HP and Microsoft pretty much just shove a giant stick up everyone's bum and expect them not to be upset about this? If I use this headset on a Linux machine will the headset work as intended?

Any suggestions or comments on the matter would be greatly appreciated.

I'm with you, Kmo2o0. I feel like somebody owes me some money for my investment in this VR headset/HMD. HP or Microsoft, I don't care which. Both of them sold us on the combination of hardware/software and were happy to take our money. How do they get to kill that for which they took our money, and then, you know, keep our money? It doesn't feel or smell good. If anybody catches wind of a class action lawsuit or some other consumer protection litigation, count me in.

FWIW, I (thankfully) did not get 24H2 (yet) and have now "paused" updates for 5 weeks. I'm hoping I can pause them again, and again, and again, ad infinitum, until my G2 gives up the ghost. Thankfully, I only use the G2 on a dedicated gaming machine, not my daily driver (that I want fully updated all the time). If I can't pause/avoid the update, I have taken a system image of the gaming machine's hard drive and can revert back to pre-24H2 if Microsoft forces it upon me. Well, theoretically. Honestly, how can they get away with this?

Just read this story by John Towfighi, CNN, 12/13/2024, "Google and Samsung are taking on Apple and Meta with their own mixed-reality headset". Use your favorite search engine to look it up. Hey, HP, howz about you ensure there is a workable driver for the Reverb G2 on Android XR? Just a concept.

There you go, barely 2 years since I bought this headset for a modest sum of €750 + the two controllers €200.

And you tell me that my headset is obsolete, do the math over two years that's a lot of money for me.

So either you give us a driver for the most recent Windows, or you compensate us with this loss.

I no longer have the means to buy a new headset, money doesn't fall from the sky for some.

I reached out to HP via Instagram and this is what they said:

"That is certainly not the experience we want for you to have. However, since the product is a commercial device. We recommend contacting the dedicated commercial support team using the instructions shared above for immediate assistance regarding your concern. Regards, HP support"
