HP Reverb G2 Virtual Reality Headset
Microsoft Windows 11

I'm assuming my reverb headset is dead, when I got my reverb it (second hand and out of Warrenty) came with the V2 Cable and the little box with the button and it does light up when plugged into the PC!  and I still get the 1-4 display error, (It's plugged into a MSI 3090 TI trio) I have tried every USB C and USB A on the motherboard as well as the brand new pcie USB 3.2 card I bought, every Display port checked and tried, reversed the USB which I heard might help....didn't.   Updated every driver, software, bios I've had, reinstalled software.  rebooted more times than I can believe.  The only time WMR vaguely gave the smallest hint of life was when I tried changing the drivers on device manager for the reverb from Hololens to perception simulation service, however reverb still wouldn't turn on.   and yes I've checked every cable, cleaned the connectors and checked they were firmly plugged in and seated correctly.   I even tried altering the Gen setting for the Graphics card in the bios and that just caused a whole new set of problems so I defaulted them back.  I do research for any new developments on these issues, I saw something today about the V2 cable not working with 3090ti cards and that the V1 cable works, but I really don't want to keep spending money on things that probably won't work.   It's a new PC build with Windows 11 and pretty much top spec.  Just can't think of anything else to try now.   So I'm assuming my reverb is dead and I should cut my loses on it now?  I just don't want to save up for a new Reverb if the same issue is going to happen again.  Hope someone has found a workable solution.

After Searching the Internet and everything I could find, I finally found the answer to getting my dead HP Reverb that was out of Warrenty back to life.  When I bought it, it already had the Version 2 cables with the large inline box with the power button and it still wasn't working, no power to the headset with the a blank display.  I tried a new PCIe USB 3.2 card and that failed as well as well as USB Adapters and software updates etc.  I then came across an artcle about how RTX3090ti don't work with the HP Reverb or can be tricky.   Thats what lead me to the "Display Port repeater" that Nividia and HP are aware about which can be a solution for this issue.  You'll also need a new display cable capable of 1.4 or higher 4k or 8k display resolution to run from the repeater to the GPU.  Fortunately they aren't expensive on Amazon (got both for only £27).  Now when I set this up, i wasn't hoping too much as I've been working on this for many weeks but...for the first time the HP logo on the reverb came on.  that was a start, still a blank screen, but after trying more USB ports it turns out I still needed the pcie USB card after all, so at least that wasn't a waste of money.  I was still getting errors ranging from displayport 1.4 to the new 1-8 error.  but I carried on trying different USB C ports (none worked) and then using adapters on the Reverb which turns the USB C to USB A so long as it's a good quality adpater and capable of 3.2 speeds.   Also I found that the displayport repeater needs a seperate USB power supply from a source that isn't the computer.  so I used a samsung mobile phone plug I had kicking around.   Finally, a few more attempts of switching around the displayport cables into the repeater and it finally came to life!   I still need to fine tune the setting, but yes the resolution is better than the Quest 2 that I've been using, software isn't as good as the quest 2, but maybe in time it will be.   Have noticed it's a tiny bit slow to respond but I'm pretty sure thats in the settings, and considering it's going through a repeater into a 3090TI that the Reverb doesn't like, I'm sure software updates will eventually cure this.    I do understand that companies like HP who make the reverb can't always test every single new piece of hardware that comes out with their products, but....when it's a key piece like a top spec insanely expensive GPU it does seem odd to me that you'd think that would have been done, as most people who could afford it would upgrade to get the best VR experience.   Also I have to question what is so different about the RTX 3090TI that it isn't compatible but all the other RTX's are.  Well after nearly a month of trial and error I can now finally sit back and see what the reverb can do.
