since last windows 10 update been unable to get my hp reverb g2 working and watching the drivers in device manager generic superspeed usb hub switches back and too until MRP software come up with error code 7-7 - as you can see from the pictures the usb starts switching back and too and and it stops with the error code 7-7 until i remove the power and plug it back in and starts again.
im using AMD mother board b550 the bio is upto date as well as the chipset drivers.
i did not backup the windows 10 before update i know what a prat but its done now any ideas what
it might be apart from the cable which was fine before update..
REV 2 cable had it since last june
Ive have used all usb 3.1 ports and still the same problem first thing i did 😞 And it just switches back and too lick I said what ever port is used until the error message come up.
Only the mouse and keyboard are using usb ports.
PSU is the one that came with version 1 of the hub as they would not replace it so using it with version 2 of the hub.
bios and drivers are all upto date on my B550 mother board amd 3700x cpu 16 gb 3200 ram with amd 5700 gpu like i said no problems before windows 10 updated.
i have deleted the old drivers and checked that all drivers are upto date most are the microsoft versions in device manager and all say upto date 25/08/2021
and dont have another pc to try my headset on 😞
was going to go over to windows 11 but if i cannot get it to work on windows 10 whats the point.
Used my VR headset setup at a friends last night and if anything it was worse on his intel setup from 2017 could not even make it though the WMR setup .
He thinks its the PSU and the headset not getting the power it needs as the USB is doing the same as my house its like the hub is turning on my off without the light on the hub turn on and off.
so will be buying a replacement PSU first and if its the same i will just have a spare PSU alot cheaper then a cable first does any one else think it could be the PSU ?

Hi @stonewales
Welcome to the HP Support Community. I see that you are facing issues connecting your HP Reverb G2 Virtual Reality Headset to the system. Do not worry, we are here to help you with it.
May I know which system are you using to connect your HP Reverb G2 Virtual Reality Headset?
Could you tell me if you are facing the same issue when you connect your USB mouse and keyboard?
The Mixed Reality headset driver failed to initialize the firmware on your headset. This can be a transient error. Try unplugging and replugging in your headset and make sure you're using a quality power USB hub. If that doesn't work:
- Temporarily unplug USB devices and peripherals you don't need to run Windows Mixed Reality.
- Remove all extension cables.
- Check Windows Updates to ensure you're running the latest available headset driver.
Also, may I know if you tried reinstalling Windows Mixed Reality on your system?
I would suggest you update all the drivers using the link here: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-reverb-g2-virtual-reality-headset/33835976
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

AMD motherboard TUF gaming B550-plus
AMD 3700x CPU
AMD 5700 gpu
16 gb 3600 ddr 4 ram
ssd 240 OCZ trion 100 boot drive
1000 watt EVGA PSU
Could you tell me if you are facing the same issue when you connect your USB mouse and keyboard?
No issues what so error on any other usb hardware that is plugged into the machine.
Only the mouse and keyboard where plugged in when the issue happened.

The headset was working fine no problems then windows 10 update and windows mixed reality potral software updated
that the problems started.
Temporarily unplug USB devices and peripherals you don't need to run Windows Mixed Reality.
Only the mouse and keyboard are plugged in and still the same - Have swapped to use all the USB 3.2 ports 5 on this motherboard and still the same thing happens.
Remove all extension cables
Dont have any extension cables .
Check Windows Updates to ensure you're running the latest available headset driver.
All drivers are upto date on the headset.
Chipset drivers are upto date.
Graphics card divers are upto date.
Also, may I know if you tried reinstalling Windows Mixed Reality on your system?
Yes i was told to do that on the Reddit forum and did as well as the remove drivers from Steam.
After removing the software i did a reboot and powered on the headset the HP logo lights up on the front and
windows then started the headset setupand went though the setup with out any problems at all the headset
stays powered on uptil once the setup was finished then the HP light on the front of the headset switches off
and the headset would power off and the usb problem will start once again.
I did try a reboot after but still the same problem the headset HP logo does not light up and the usb drivers error happens.

Hello,
yes, im getting error 7-7... i am directly plugging into my computer so no USB hub to speak of. i also do believe it to be a windows update issue... after the last update the 7-7 error started and now when i go to the windows update page and check for a update one is available...
once i run the update i get this error...
ive even tried manually downloading the update from Microsofts site and it still fails... im at my wits end with this and it seems like HP and Microsoft couldn't careless

So before the issue started you did not have any problems with the cable or headset before the update ?
sorry if asking old questions over and over just your only the other person that the same error code 7-7 has
had to talk too.
So just like me no problems with the hardware side and then Windows 10 updated and stopped working.
Only help microsoft or HP have given is reinstall Windows 10 ( i said wont the same thing just happen if its a software problem )
Do you know any one else close by with the same headset thats working so you can try your headset on there
PC and see if the same error code happens ? ( as i do not )
Got me thinking yet again that might not be the cable as like you might have seen in my old posts i sit during use and only a meter of cable is in use during and i donot unplug the cable from the headset or the the PC just power off the built in hub and unplug the PSU ( my cable is V2 the one with the big hub box for AMD systems )
Is your setup a AMD or INTEL cpu.
my set is
AMD 3700 cpu
550 amd motherboard
amd 5700 Gpu
16 gb ddr4 3600 memory
240 gb ssd boot
still waiting for HP to get stock in to buy a cable to try ( my head will of course blow up if i replace the cable and get the same
error code 7-7 )

So before the issue started i did have a cable fail on me but was able to get a new one... this cable im using now is only about a month old (if that) so i dont think its the problem. if you have the old cable you are eligible to get a new one for free... the tech support will NOT offer it to you free and will tell you that it needs to be paid for but you need to tell them to check the "engineering advisory" on the cable issue and it will tell them that you get a free replacement. If you dont know what cable you have (old or new one) then one way you can tell is that on the new cable, at the little box in the middle of it (where the power cable plugs into it) if you have a little power button on that box then its the new cable (not eligible for free cable) and if you dont its the old one (eligible for free cable).
In regards to reinstalling Win10, i even tried to do the windows refresh that reinstalls all of windows without removing your programs or data and even that failed.
unfortunately i dont know anyone who has a HP headset at all so i cant try it.
Amd Ryzen 5 six-core
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 SUPER
500gb ssd
yeah, i really dont now what to do at this point... i still am thinking its a update issue with windows. I have a feeling that MS has basically stopped working on WMR and now have changed something in the update that they never cared to test. i also have a quest 2 so im just going to be work/playing on that for now and am just going to periodically be checking to see if anything changes with the HP headset. if it never gets fixed then ill maybe just get the index (prob what i should have done in the first place).
best of luck and let me know if anything gets figured out on your end!
