macOS 12.0 Monterey

I recently bought HP omen encoder. I used it with Macbook. I found the MacOS' key modifier does not work with the keyboard.

My other keyboards do not have any such issue.  I wanted map alt key to command and windows key option key.

Also, caps lock indicator light  does not work on MacOS but it works fine on Windows.

Hi @Maazlu,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If the key modifier is not working with your HP Omen encoder keyboard, there could be a few potential causes and solutions you can try.

  • Check the keyboard settings: Make sure that the key modifier function is enabled in the keyboard settings. Some keyboards have dedicated software or drivers that allow you to customize the key functions. Check the documentation or the manufacturer's website for instructions on how to access and modify the keyboard settings.
  • Test the keyboard on another device: Connect the HP Omen encoder keyboard to a different computer or device to see if the key modifier works there. If it does, the issue may be related to the configuration or settings on your original computer.
  • Update keyboard drivers: Visit the HP support website and search for the latest drivers for your specific model of the HP Omen encoder keyboard. Download and install any available updates to ensure that the keyboard is running with the most up-to-date software.
  • Try a different USB port: Sometimes, USB connection issues can affect keyboard functionality. Plug the keyboard into a different USB port on your computer and see if that resolves the problem.
  • Check for conflicting software: Certain software applications or utilities may interfere with the keyboard's functionality. Try closing any background applications that could potentially conflict with the key modifier function.
  • Reset the keyboard: Some keyboards have a reset function that can help resolve issues. Look for a small reset button on the keyboard or refer to the user manual for instructions on how to perform a reset.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

It's a shame for a keyboard with such a great build quality. I wonder if the engineers couldn't allow the users to make more advanced customizations such as remapping left_alt and left_windows keys using the current Omen Gaming Hub software. Obviously this solution would require the keys being mapped on a Windows computer first (given the fact that OGH isn't available for Mac). I'm saying this because OGH macros are being recorded to keyboard's internal memory (e.g.: they still work when the keyboard is plugged in to a Mac or another OS).

I love the build quality and the feel of HP Omen Encoder, however not being able to switch modifier keys on a Mac is kind of crazy. This is the first keyboard that doesn't respect any recustomization on the software level (I tried Karabiner Elements on the Mac).

Is there any chance an HP engineer could see this and at least give us some insight about our inability to customize keys?
