My mouse has started dropping inputs recently. Specifically, the left click drops roughly 33% of all inputs. When the input is dropped, I press the left click and nothing happens on my computer. I've tried various angles and forces when I click, but haven't determined any kind of pattern. No other mouse I use on this machine has this issue.

Hi @Samus2,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your mouse might be experiencing hardware issues, given that other mice do not have the same problem on your computer. Here are some steps to help diagnose and potentially resolve the problem:

  1. Check for Driver Updates:
    • Ensure that the mouse drivers are up to date. You can check for updates in the Device Manager if you're using Windows, or through your operating system's update utility.

  2. Test on Another Computer:
    • Connect the mouse to another computer to see if the issue persists. This will help determine if the problem is with the mouse or your computer.

  3. Clean the Mouse:
    • Dirt or debris around the mouse buttons can interfere with the clicks. Use a can of compressed air to gently clean around the button. If the mouse allows for disassembly, consider opening it to clean the internals, but only if you're comfortable doing so.

  4. Check USB Port:
    • Make sure the USB port is functioning properly. Try connecting the mouse to a different USB port to check if there's a connection issue with the port being used.

  5. Inspect for Physical Damage:
    • Check the mouse for any visible signs of wear or damage, particularly around the button that is experiencing issues.

  6. Check Mouse Settings:
    • Review the mouse settings in your operating system for any unusual configurations that might affect how clicks are registered. Ensure that the click speed is set to a responsive level.

  7. Try a Firmware Update:
    • Some mice come with upgradable firmware, which might help resolve issues. Check the manufacturer's website for any available updates.

  8. Consider a Replacement:
    • If the mouse is still under warranty, you might want to consider contacting the manufacturer for a replacement if the issue persists.

If the problem continues despite attempting these solutions, it might be indicative of a more serious internal issue with the mouse, and replacing it could be the best option.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
